Kisumu County has become the first county to establish a Health Promotion Centre of Excellence after the same was launched by the National Government.
Kisumu is among the first six counties in which the programme is being piloted and is aimed at enhancing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agendas on Universal Health Care.
Kisumu County Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili,who officiated at the launch today hailed the initiative saying the centre of excellence will go a long way in improving the health of the residents.
“We are improving the quality of health systems so that everyone in Kisumu County can have a chance to secure adequate health care” said Owili.
“The launch of the centre is a huge milestone towards achieving the universal health care meant to ease access to the health services by the citizens and facilitate health promotion through the digital platform” the Deputy Governor added.
Dr. Owili acknowledged the steps that have been made by the County Department of Health office and the Ministry of Health (MOH) in ensuring that medical services are made available to the people and urged the stakeholders to work in unison to ensure its success.
“Health is core to the county government agenda and we will work with other stakeholders to ensure the people of Kisumu are getting quality health services.” Deputy Governor said.
When fully established, the observatory centre will provide a working space as well as a comprehensive repository of health reference materials in both physical and digital formats equipped with books, journals, computer equipment, health promotion page and social media platforms.S
peaking at the forum, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Population Service (PS) Kenya Mrs. Joyce Wanderi appealed to the stakeholder to adopt preventive policies to ensure health promotion bears fruit.
