The French team, also known as the Le Bleus, had to shut out Croatia's dominant force in both halves to emerge as the winners.

Le Bleus' 19-year-old sensation Kylian Mbappe made headlines again by putting up a great performance that was capped off by a goal in the 65th minute.

However, Le Bleus coach Didier Deschamps made history in this year's tournament by becoming the third ever man to win the World Cup both as manager and player. He won the World Cup as player with France in the 1998 tournament.

He joins the likes of Franz Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo who have also won the tournament both as players and managers. Zagallo won the World Cup as player with Brazil both in 1958 and 1962 before guiding Brazil to the 1970 victory as manager.

Beckenbauer on the other hand won the tournament as player with West Germany in 1974 before winning it as manager with West Germany in 1990.

With this win, Deschamps heals the UEFA Euro 2016 loss to Portugal where his team failed to conquer the tournament despite Christiano Ronaldo sitting out a large part of the game injured.
