Cabinet Secretaries who may be caught engaging in politics risk being sacked and subsequently replaced by young Kenyans, a furious President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
The culture of threatening ministers is synonymous with the president these days, having openly scolded a number of them in his previous outings. Last October, Uhuru accused Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri of failing to solve maize farmers predicaments, even though the latter shifted Blame to his predecessor, Willy Bett.
While addressing residents of Kitengela town on his way to Arusha, Uhuru confirmed that he will not spare any of his ministers who may be caught politicking in future.
"During today's Cabinet meeting I reminded our Cabinet Secretaries that there are many young Kenyans who are willing and ready to work if they felt they are not up to task. Those who've chosen to keep politicking instead of serving the people should be ready to give way," Uhuru wrote on his twitter.
He added: "Tell those who come to you politicking that you don't need politics. Tell them you need water, roads and education for your children. Tell them to stop their corrupt ways, and tell them not to go around dividing Kenyans along tribal lines."
Since assuming office for the second and final term, Uhuru has warned politicians from engaging in what he terms as 'premature' campaigns for 2022 polls. At an interview with the media during Christmas, the Head of State accused journalists of fueling early campaigns.
Instead, the president, in collaboration with his political nemesis cum ally Raila Odinga, have often insisted that Kenyans should be more concerned with development and unity than engaging in unending succession politics.
With DP William Ruto finding himself in the president's crossfire, he distanced himself from political outfits pushing for his 2022 bid in a press statement issued by his spokesman David Mugonyi on Thursday.
Early this year, there were speculations that Uhuru could sack a number of ministers deemed incompetent when he met Raila Odinga at the coast, but State House has remained mum despite mainstream media featuring such claims.
Recently, Uhuru, however, appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to the powerful National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee, whose role would be among others, supervising, guiding, monitoring and communicating progress of government projects.
The appointment rattled a section of politicians allied to Ruto, who claimed that the position aimed at trimming Ruto's influence and power in government.
