Fourteen people have been arrested in Kisumu following the demonstrations that rocked the city on Monday after the Supreme Court upheld the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta during the October 26 repeat polls.

Speaking on behalf of Kisumu County Commander John Kamau,  Nyanza Traffic Commandant Andrew Naibei said those apprehended were being held at Kisumu Central Police station as their charge sheets were being prepared before being arraigned in court latter on Tuesday  to face criminal charges

Naibei said the 14 were suspected to have coordinated massive looting of property and breaking into shops at Kamasi and Kondele areas.

The police, he said had managed to salvage a section of the looted goods which include ceiling-boards, doors among other construction equipment that had been looted from hardware shops.

Early Tuesday  morning, Naibei confirmed that a Quick Response Team (QRT) had been dispatched to repulse a group of goons who had regrouped at Kamasi area with intentions of looting.

No cases of fatalities or injuries he said had been reported at the police base following Monday’s running battles between the police and rioters.

The traffic boss gave a stern warning to those engaging in criminal activities in the name of demonstrating warning that they will be met with the full force of the law.
