NTV investigative journalist Dennis Okari has revealed that he travelled to Eldoret on Friday morning onboard a Silverstone plane.
In a tweet, Okari noted that he had met some of the passengers who had boarded the Lamu-bound plane which crashed at the Wilson Airport shortly after takeoff.
The media personality lamented that the runway at the airport was wet and full of potholes.
''I was on board @silverstoneair in the morning at 7:15am - Eldoret & met some of the passengers on that flight to Mombasa. The runway was very wet but what struck me was the potholes. Our pilot was literally dodging them as we taxied. We hit two of them hard #WilsonAirport,'' tweeted Dennis Okari.
His tweet came just minutes after a Silverstone plane headed to Lamu from the Wilson Airport in Nairobi crashed minutes after takeoff.
“We can confirm that our Fokker 50, 5Y-IZO has had an incident while taking off at Wilson Airport at 9am this morning. The aircraft was operating the Wilson-Mombasa-Lamu-Mombasa-Wilson route,” Silverstone Air said in a statement.
The plane had 55 passengers and five crew members on board.
Two passengers were injured during the accident, with no fatalities being reported.
