Break-up is a bad experience. Whether it’s you who initiated it or you were dumped out of the blue, any kind of separation can sting. It is so hurting and traumatizing especially if you really loved and cared for the person.

There are healthy ways of dealing with separation while some actions can end up hurting you more. Try to avoid doing the following things after a break-up.

Pretend you’re fine

Never allow your pride to get in the way of being real. Open up and talk to your friends and loved ones about what happened. Mourn and cry on their shoulders to relieve the pain.

Talk dirty “shit” about your ex to their friends or family

Talking negatively about your ex to your friends is a bad idea. Sometimes talking dirty about the person may end up tainting your image instead of tainting theirs.

Seek revenge

Revenge won’t heal your wounds. The thrill to settle scores with your ex only increases your bitterness and hatred and may lead you in trouble.  Don’t steal or destroy his stuff because this may lead you to prison. Try to be calm and move on.

Have break-up sex

You may have the urge to get intimate with him or her especially after months of not seeing each other. Even when you feel you really miss him, don’t make love to him. Remember there was a reason that made you part ways and having sex puts you at a high risk of falling in love with them again.

Alcohol and drug abuse

There are various ways of forgetting your traumatizing experience but don’t abuse alcohol. too much alcohol is harmful to your health. Moderate your drinking while having fun with your friends.
