Chris Atema, who is the first born son of Ikolomani MP Benard Shinali, is dead. The 35 year old who who died on Friday was serving in the US Marine .
According to a report by Citizen TV, the soldier died while trying to rescue a Canadian teenage girl who was drowning in a swimming pool.
Robert Ayisi, the family spokesman, told Nation Media that they received the news of Atema's death through his colleague.
“We received the news of his (Mr Masakah) death from a relative who works with him in the US. (Mr) Masakah lives and works in Illinois State but had travelled to Arizona for a holiday with his family where he met his untimely death,” Robert Ayisi told Nation.
National Assembly Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali however, has raised concerns surrounding the death of the soldier.
“It is not clear how a person who trained to survive in difficult situations like the US Marine could drown in a swimming pool. We will remember the young man for his bravery since he died saving a life,” Washiali stated as quoted by The Nation Media.
Some of the leaders who have issued their condolences include; Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda.
