Speaking on Thursday at the Kiambu County headquarters, Jackie Nungari hailed the Senate's move, saying that it would be the beginning of a new dawn for the county.

She claimed that the people of Kiambu had suffered a great deal because of the uncertainty that the county was under over the course of Waititu's trial.

"This is a new dawn for the people of Kiambu and especially women. You saw yesterday that he was alleged to have assaulted a woman and I want to say that now we will get a leader who will look out for the interests of the women (This is a new dawn for watu wa Kiambu hasa kama sisi akina mama. Jana mliona part of allegation alikuwa amedhulumu mama na mimi nasema tutakuwa tumepata kiongozi ambaye ataangalia maslahi ya akina mama)," she said in an exclusive interview with a local television station. Waititu was ousted from power on Wednesday after a vote by senators who retreated to decide his fate.

He had pleaded with the legislators to treat him in the same way they would want to be treated if they became governors but the senators would hear none of it.
