Deputy President William Ruto has said the leaders pushing for the constitutional amendment should agree on a possible date for the referendum.
Ruto said the politicians who want elective positions to be reduced and those who want the provision of more seats in the constitution should stop wasting Kenyans' time since citizens need service delivery.
He said those busy pushing for a referendum should amicably agree on what they want to be changed in the constitution without squabbles.
Ruto said the government is committed to uniting Kenyans, the country and achieving development across the nation.
The Deputy President spoke when he commissioned the upgrading to bitumen standards and maintenance of Kimutwa - Makaveti - Kwa Mutisya Road in Kalama, Machakos County on Monday.
Ruto said he had agreed with President Uhuru Kenyatta that they put development as their government's first priority.
He said the referendum is not part of the Jubilee government's big four agenda.
"Tell them that among our priorities are roads, water, health, education, and industrialization. After we are done with all the four development agenda, we will go for a referendum," Ruto said.
Ruto said the government will work with all leaders across the country including the Ukambani political kingpin Kalonzo Musyoka.
He, however, said leaders should be careful with those who cheat them.
"If a person cheats you once, he is called a cheat. If the same person cheats you for the second time, then you should think. Something might be wrong with you, go check if you are OK," he added.
Ruto said politics ended in 2017 and it's time to deliver development projects to the electorates.
He called for unity among leaders and Kenyans at large to ensure the country is united and that all parts of the country benefit from the government's development projects.
Ruto said the government is focused on developing all regions in the country despite whether they voted for Jubilee or not.
He mentioned several development projects the Jubilee administration has commissioned in Machakos County and other parts of the Ukambani region.
They include roads, water, youth polytechnics, electricity, and hospitals.
Ruto said the government had allocated Sh40 billion towards the construction of Konza City that will employ more than 5,000 youths.
He was accompanied by MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Fabian Kyule (Kangundo), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South) and Erastus Kivasu (Mbooni) who all backed the DP's stand on the referendum.
