Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has sent out an urgent appeal for blood donation.

Nyong’o said most people who were brutalized by the police need urgent blood to keep them alive.

He said the blood bank has got no sufficient blood to assist those in need.

“Our people must come out and donate blood. These are our sisters and brothers and we must save their lives,” he said.

He appealed to the locals to come out and donate blood at the Kisumu blood transfusion centre in Kisumu.

Speaking to the press on Saturday after a leaders meeting at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Nyong’o announced that the county had lost three lives due to police gunshots.

The leaders later trooped at the transfusion centre ready to donate blood.

Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabiir was the first to volunteer to donate blood to help the locals who were injured during the battle between the police and the locals.

“I am ready to donate my blood to help our people and my gesture should be an example to other leaders to step up and donate blood,” he said.
