The African Union (AU) has lauded Kenya following the announcement of its policy that will now allow any African visiting the country to be issued with a visa on arrival at the airport.

On Tuesday, AU commission chair Moussa Faki Mahamat called upon other countries across the continent to adopt the policy as well.

"I urge all African states that have not yet done so to take similar measures towards the free movement for all Africans across Africa," he said via his twitter handle.

He further went on to praise Kenya on the "historic decision' for Africa as it is the first to implement such a policy.

The announcement of the new policy came during President Uhuru Kenyatta's swearing in ceremony at the Moi Safaricom Sports Stadium, Kasarani on Tuesday.

"Today, I am directing that any African wishing to visit Kenya will be eligible to receive a visa at the port of entry," Uhuru said.

According to the Head of State the move will boost trade and security while also increasing appreciation for African diversity.
