The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has rejected the just-released results for the 2017 KCSE exams.

Speaking on Thursday over the results, Knut Secretary general Wilson Sossion termed the results a "blunder of monumental proportion".

"We condemn the release of the exams in the strongest terms possible as it amounts to fraud that has led to mass failure of students," he said.

In a statement, the Secretary General asked the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to cancel the results without further delay so as to allow for auditing and further scrutiny.

"In order to correctly assign grades to the raw marks by the chief examiner and team leaders, due process has to be followed to the later which includes moderation."

Sossion added that KNEC has lost credibility and further accused Education CS Fred Matiang’i and the council's CEO George Magoha of running the affairs of the exam body as a personal property.

"It is shameful as a nation that only 70,000 candidates can go to university. What happens with the remaining 25,000 places that we have?" Sossion asked.

Should the teachers have their way, it will be a big blow to Matiang'i who has earned a name for releasing exam results in record time.
