Teachers have been ordered to submit their wealth declaration forms to the Teachers Service Commission in adherence to the Public Officer Ethics Act.

The school masters have until December 31 to comply.

According to the law, every public officer must submit once every two years a declaration of their total income, assets and liabilities as well as those of their spouse (or spouses) and children under the age of 18.

The Teachers Service Commission has already introduced an online portal for the exercise that was enacted in 2003.

“In this regard, all teachers are expected to fill an online declaration by December 31 following steps outlined in the wealth declaration instruction manual,” said the commission's CEO Nancy Macharia in a circular dated November 30.

She said school heads should oversee the declaration progress at their respective work stations and report any non-compliance.

“Any teacher in the TSC employment who fails to submit a declaration or gives false or misleading information is liable to a fine of Sh10,000 or imprisonment of a term not exceeding one year or both upon conviction,” Macharia warned.
