[Photo/tuko.co.ke]National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has warned Mwingi North MP Nzengu Mushimi against applying for the least prestigious East African Legislative Assembly slot to pave way for Kalonzo Musyoka’s return to parliament. In an article posted by a local daily, Duale wonders why one can leave the honorable parliament to apply for an EALA post.“However, we would like to know the motive of Mushimi’s decision to apply for the EALA position because it is ridiculous for a sitting MP in the National Assembly to apply for EALA. In terms of prestige and resources, they (Eala members) make the Kenyan MP more senior. "The members are voted for by legislators of every East African Parliament. In this case, the law is very clear that Mushimi must resign as Mwingi North MP before the EALA election date, which is on December 14, 2017, if he wants to join the regional Assembly. No sitting Member of Parliament of the respective countries can be voted for by the Eala,” reads part of Duale’s article.
