Owners of premises without designated smoking zones have been warned that the law will not spare them.

Isabella Karanja from the tobacco control board says the law is very clear that those who don’t meet the requirement are liable to a fine of Sh50,000.

Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, she said they will not relent in enforcing the law fully urging all owners of premises to ensure they comply.

Ministry of health and the Nakuru county government department of health services embarked on sensitization campaign against smoking of tobacco products.

“We shall be moving to all 11 sub-counties in Nakuru creating awareness against smoking of tobacco before embarking on enforcement,” she said.

On his part, Nakuru county chief officer health services Dr. Samuel Mwaura said that they have already trained prosecutors who will ensure that enforcement of the law takes effect.

“The county enforcement officers will be visiting bars and night clubs to ensure that the law is followed to the latter,” he said.

Meanwhile, an advisory committee comprising of the various stakeholders will be formed to ensure proper and smooth enforcement of the law.
