Flower farmers from Naivasha sub-county have expressed concerns after Britain voted to leave the European Union (EU). The farmers are worried that the exit may have an impact in the sale of flowers outside the country, as well as the price of farm inputs imported.

Under the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) umbrella, the farmers said they expect a positive change of business cooperation between Kenya and UK.

KFC director Jane Ngige said “we expect the market to expand, because the exit must not make Britain weak, but stronger”.

One farmers Jack Kneppers from Maridadi Flowers Farm, however, expressed his worry that some countries will be affected directly by Briton’s move to vote out of EU.

While recognising that Kenyan flowers to UK are not exported directly, Kneppers challenged the two countries to dig dipper into their business relations to help the farmers.
