Poor lighting is to blame for discrepancies in the Likoni MP seat final election results, former area MP Masoud Mwahima has said. The Jubilee politician argued that the outcome of the August 8 general poll did not reflect the will of the people of Likoni. Mwahima, while testifying during a case challenging the election of Mishi Mboko in a Mombasa Court on Monday, said Likoni Returning Officer Luciana Swanzua used lighting from a phone during the process of tallying after a power outage occurred. He further argued that the poor lighting is likely to have affected the outcome of the tallying exercise that saw Mboko declared the winner. The former MP also told the court that the Returning Officer opted to use her phone’s flashlight during tallying at the Likoni School for the Blind instead of using the rechargeable lamps provided by IEBC.Appearing before Judge Erick Ogola, Mwahima asked the court to nullify the outcome of the election and call for a fresh poll that will adhere to the constitution. He claimed that there are 18 ballot boxes that were disputed, adding that he had requested the returning officer not to include them in the final tally, but Swanzua ignored his calls.
