Perpetrators of Gender Based Violence have been put on notice this even as there has been increased reporting of Gender Based Violence cases at the Nakuru at the Gender Recovery Centre in Nakuru County.

Speaking on Tuesday during a review on project termed ‘Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls in Nakuru Town, Mrs Teophila Murage who heads the recovery centre at Nakuru Provincial General Hospital said that among the cases reported, majority victims were children aged12 and 17 years.

“As we talk now I can say there has been increase in the way people report the GBV case. But I cannot say it is due to sensitization or may be the cases have increased in the society,” she said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Justine Nyakundi, the Police Officer in charge of the Gender Desk, Central Police Station, Nakuru.

He said perpetrators of GBV have been nabbed, prosecuted and successfully convicted.

“I want to assure the public that we now have dedicated officers, and we are all up to the task,” he said.

Christine Owino - an advocate under the office of Director of Public Prosecution and who has been dealing with cases of Gender Based violence and children cases said the law is firm on perpetrators of GBV.

“Let it be clear that sexual offences are not negotiable and you can take that to the bank. Anyone found interfering with the evidence will also be dealt with,” she said.

The project is being spearheaded by Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance (CEDGG) in collaboration with other partners.
