Kipyegon who hails from Kuresoi Nakuru county, won a gold medal in the women's 1,500m race, and is now expected to spearhead a campaign that intends to make the residents understand how vital the mega project is.

Senior Officers of the board led by chairman John Kitlit and director general Kipngetich Mutai, nominated Kipyegon as the project’s ambassador in a move that aims at diffusing the growing fears over the presence of the project and how it will affect area residents.

“Kipyegon will have a very important role to play, of telling the people of Nakuru county and Kenyans at large of how important this project is,” said Mr. Mutai.

“I accept the challenge whole heartedly, and also thank this board for its continued support to nurturing young talented men and women from Kuresoi and Olengurone,” Kipyegon said.

The Itare dam water supply project will be constructed at KUresoi at a cost of Sh34 billion.
