The March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga caught most political leaders in the country unaware.
None had foreseen it, including Deputy President William Ruto and his close allies in the Jubilee Party.
The newfound unity between Uhuru and Raila has sent Ruto's camp back to the drawing board as they see the accommodation of the ODM leader as a threat to their man's chances of succeeding the President in 2022.
The former Prime Minister has been meeting high profile politicians in the country raising fears that the dynasties (Kenyatta, Moi and Odinga families) could be planning to sabotage the DP's ambition to rise to power.
Last week pronouncement by the Head of State that he was determined to side by Raila, despite resistance from close allies, has further kept the DP's handlers wondering; could Uhuru be planning to dump Ruto?
Speaking to Sunday Standard, Cheregany MP Joshua Kuttuny, Ruto close ally, said they have been watching the ongoing political activities closely and they were planning for any eventuality.
"We have seen the recent happenings in the political circles and we do not want to be caught unaware. We have to work smart," he said.
Kutuny, who is the chairman of the young legislators' caucus for Ruto, said if the dynasties would join hands to block Ruto's presidency, they would mobolise 'hustlers', whom he said are the majority in the country, to support one of their 'own'.
"Ruto is a commoner of humble beginnings. We hope that this message will resonate well with the majority in our hustler nation. He personifies an ordinary Kenyan man. His triumphs will represent that of other wananchi," he said.
Kuttuny was President Kenyatta's adviser on political affairs from 2013 to 2017.
