Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) has released the total fatalities caused by police officers between August and October.

According to IMLU, 36 Kenyans were killed by the uniformed unit due to the Uhuru-Raila post-August 8 election dispute.

The Wednesday 1, November 2017 report captured police brutality during these murders.

IMLU executive director Peter Kiama said that there was no substantial evidence that the police were killings civilians to defend their lives or those of peaceful citizens.

Kiama stated that the police killed, maimed and discriminated those protesting against IEBC.

The entity says that a total of 23 Kenyans were fallen by government bullets after the August 11 declaration.

13 other citizens breathed their last as they protested against the October repeat polls.

IMLU revealed that most of the bereaved families allowed them to carry out postmortem tests on the victim’s bodies.

"In two cases where police indicated in a p23 form that they were shooting to save lives from attackers, the supposed attackers were shot from the back. This indicated that there was a little chance of them being killed while confronting the police with machetes," Kiama said as reported by the Star.

He called upon relevant authorities including the Witness Protection Agency to protect witnesses who testify against the police.

He also said excess force was used.
