The daughter of the late Senator Mutula Kilonzo, Kethi has called upon the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati to postpone the forthcoming general elections.

Kethi, a lawyer by profession, has reminded the chairman of the electoral body to exercise his powers as provided in the Regulation 64 of the Elections (General) Regulations 2012 as the opposition and ruling party continue to elicit mixed reactions ahead of the rerun.

In an opinion piece published on the Standard, Kethi opined that the failure to postpone the exercise is likely to trigger violence across the nation, adding that the country’s political situation is very volatile following the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto’s win by the Supreme Court.

"By his own public confession, the chairman admitted that IEBC is unable to conduct an election that squarely meets the threshold of the Constitution and the law.

There is also no law in place to govern the procedure for the conduct of the fresh presidential elections," she stated.

Kethi argued that it does not make sense for the Chebukati-led IEBC to conduct an election which is likely to be invalidated like it was done this year.

The opposition leader, Raila Amolo Odinga has maintained that he will not take part in the rerun.
