All is not well for the construction of Itare dam in Nakuru County, this is after area residents complained of environmental hazard.

On Thursday, residents of Ndoinet forest in Kuresoi North sub-county tabled complaints to the contractor of the dam citing hazards.

The residents outlined air and noise pollution as major concern besides lack of water.

“As residents we do not have water even for our animals as well as domestic use since the contractor fenced up the place,” said one of the residents.

Besides that, the residents added that they cannot withstand the noise from the site as the contractors blow up the rocks.

They said the contractor should give them notice before using the explosives.

It is due to these that residents gave the company a seven days ultimatum to implement the promises made to them or they stop the construction.

The mega dam is projected to serve a population of 800,000 people in Kuresoi, Molo, Njoro, Rongai and Nakuru town.

The project is funded by the Italian government and is being undertaken by Muratori and Cementitsti of Ravenna, Italy, which won the tender in September 2014.
