Virtually in all stopovers across Nyamira County, ODM leader Raila Odinga and other opposition leaders questioned the role of education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in President Uhuru Kenyatta campaigns.

Recently, Matiang’i, who also doubles as acting Interior Coordination minister, was quoted by a section of local media labeling opposition supporters ‘Marijuana addicts;.

And Odinga accused Jubilee of facilitating the minister to ‘bribe’ voters in Gusii region adding that he should be impartial in his official duties.

“Matiang’i is a civil servant who should distinguish his official role and that of politics. He should concentrate on his official duties,” he said.

“We cannot allow someone to demean us on top of using government money to influence voters. He is becoming a nuisance and we can no longer give his free way to intimidate us,” added Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire.

Although not recognized as official campaigner of Kenyatta in Gusii, the CS has been attending dozens of Harambees which he often uses as campaign platforms.

Practically, he is the senior most government dignitary in Uhuru Kenyatta’s government from the vote rich Gusii region.
