Youth and women from Muthwani ward in Mavoko, Machakos County have called for the government’s intervention to ensure they benefit from grants.

The youth said they need to be issued with youth enterprise development funds and Uwezo funds while women demanded to be considered for women enterprise funds.

“We have never benefited from Uwezo or women enterprise funds, we need the funds to improve our livelihoods,” said Joan Mwende.

Mwende said they did not know where and procedures to follow so as to benefit from the funds.

“We wonder where the offices to seek answers for many questions we have on the funds are located, we need to be advised,” added she.

They addressed the press in Muthwani on Monday.

Another youth George Ndunda said the funds would help them be self-reliant.

Ndunda said they should be issued the funds so as to start small-scale businesses.

He said if well utilised, the funds could promote youths thereby reduce effects of unemployment.

“Unemployment rate in Machakos is worrying, let us have the funds so that we do business,” said Ndunda.

They said a majority of the youths were engaged in drugs and substance abuse due to frustrations. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Machakos that you want Hivisasa to cover? Tell us what is happening by joining this group and have it published.
