Days after KNUT Masaba branch backed education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i for the post, a section of Nyamira leaders now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to retain the tough minister.

Uhuru is expected to name his new cabinet after inauguration on Tuesday with the Nation indicating that at least seven ministers will be sacked.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and his Kitutu Masaba counterpart Shadrack Mose on Friday backed Matiang’i, who has been also leading the security docket.

“He has done a good job and we expect that he will be rewarded. I will propose that he stays in education,” said Mose.

Nyamoko, the former Speaker for Nyamira added: “He has impressed in his duties and I am hopeful that he shall prosper.”

Although Uhuru is yet to launch the cabinet, sources say that he may be forced to fill all 22 slots to accommodate many allies who helped him in his reelection.

Uhuru is however facing major rebellion from the opposition which has vowed to paralyze his government.
