Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi’s push for the secession of the Coast region is destined to fail, a local NGO has said. Pwani ni Kenya chair Alex Kasuku said the two counties do not have the numbers to enable them to achieve self-rule. Kasuku said the secession debate is miscalculated and ill-timed, arguing that the actions of the two governors show that they are not sincere with the people living in the region. He said time has come for the two county bosses to change tune and serve the people who elected them.“Let leaders be sincere with those they represent. They need numbers in Parliament to push for secession. As we speak, the region lacks the numbers in the National Assembly," said Kasuku, during an interview with The Star.He accused Joho and Kingi of failing to bring development to the people of Mombasa and Kilifi respectively.“The two leaders have failed the most in the six counties at the Coast, yet they are now the ones leading the secession call,” said Kasuku.Joho and Kingi have however maintained that they will not back down in their push for secession, arguing that the region has been marginalized by the current and past regimes.
