Kimani was among eight legislators who appeared before the court, after being held in custody for three days over hate speech allegations, pending police investigations.

The judge said “I have been informed that one of the accused might not be in a very good state of health, he needs some check up and fresh air.”

At the same court, one of the defense lawyers John Khaminwa, said the conditions in the cells where the MPs were remanded, was deplorable in the sense that there was bad “urine and human waste odor.”

However, Kimani was brought back to the chambers after some time, where the prosecution read him the criminal charges he is facing.

Kimani is said to have threatened members of the Luo by saying “Yeye walifanya demonstration wakachoma nyumba ya mkikuyu na ya Naivas…..kama ni namna hiyo, hata wajaluo wahame hapa wameharibu mali ya watu wetu…”
