A secret meeting between NASA co-principals Moses Wetangula and Raila Odinga resolved to dispatch statisticians to Kitutu Chache South to conduct an opinion poll, reveals an insider.

With NASA having fielded four candidates in the mini poll, Wetangula reached Odinga to pursuade him support a Ford Kenya candidate, a request that was granted after the opinion poll outcome.

"Wetangula was concerned that NASA could lose the seat to Jubilee and he reached Odinga at Karen. They consulted other principals before agreeing on a field research," says the source.

The outcome of the opinion poll put Richard Onyonka of Ford Kenya ahead, prompting Odinga to abandon Samuel Omwando, the ODM candidate.

And on Tuesday, the move worked following Onyonka's landslide victory (10, 122) against Jubilee's Antony Kibagendi who scored 5074 votes despite strong backing from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"The research indicated that Onyonka was ahead in the tight race and Odinga and other principals had no option other than endorsing him."

Similar challenges affected Kisii Governor James Ongwae who skipped campaigns due to NASA affiliate parties rivalry.

Onyonka ditched ODM due to internal wrangles and will be serving his third term in parliament after the famous victory.
