The eventful 2017 political year in the history of Mombasa politics is gone and comes 2018.

However, politically speaking, a section of politicians from the Coastal city continue walking on political eggshells with their future hanging in the balance.

There is no doubt that 2018 will be their year.

Nyali MP Mohamed Ali is one such politician who will be forced to fight tooth to nail to save his political career.

Ali, of Jicho Pevu fame, has been blowing both hot and cold on whether he supports NASA or Jubilee.

However, of concern to him will be how to mount a political campaign in case the High Court nullifies his election.

In the neighboring Kisauni constituency, Mombasa's political boiler room, the election of MP Ali Mbogo has been challenged by immediate former lawmaker Rashid Bedzimba.

The battle for Kisauni presents Joho with intricate political balance considering the two rivals are his close friends.

Mbogo was elected on a Wiper ticket.

But Joho was supporting Bedzimba of ODM.

However, Joho's biggest challenge in Mombasa's political contest is on how to consign former Senator Hassan Omar to political dustbin.

The former Wiper Secretary-General is on a reinvention mission with many backing him for appointment in the new President Uhuru Kenyatta cabinet.

Should he make the cut, the former vocal Senator would have rejuvenated his political fortunes going into 2022 and would prove to be one of the most decisive political voices.

With all other elected MPs in Mombasa off the hook, the political developments in Nyali and Kisauni will be a defining factor in the county in 2018.

However, the rivalry between NASA on one side and Jubilee on the other side will spice up the country's political scene.
