A section of Nairobi matatu operators are requesting that the ban imposed on matatus in the CBD be postponed from starting till April this year.

According to the stakeholders, they have put in place measures that will ensure a smooth transition from the way they operate so as to minimise loses.

They said they had accepted to comply to the City Hall demands, and that requesting for a postponement to the exercise should not mean refusal.

Association of Matatu Operators chairman Jimal Ibrahim on Thursday urged Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to review the ban date that is set to take effect end of this month.

“It is not practical to decongest the city in a one-off exercise. We are asking Governor Sonko to give us more time to put our affairs in order,” stated the chairman.

He added that they are liaising with other stakeholders in the transport industry, including Kenya Railways, to establish pick-and-drop-off points for passengers.
