The Catholic faithful at the Coast have been urged to pray for the nation as they begin the period of lent.
Lent is a period of 40 days where Catholic faithful restrain themselves from eating or drinking during the day and dedicate themselves to charity work all through.
They are also required to pray and repent so that they get closer to their Creator according to the teachings of the Holy bible and to the Catholic Church rituals.
In his Early Wednesday summon at St. Joseph Catholic church in Tudor, Mombasa, during the Ash Wednesday holy mass, the Vicar general (Deputy Archbishop) of the Catholic church, Archdiocese of Mombasa Father Willybard Lagho said that Catholics should value the period of lent and always get involved in good deeds.
He said that as Catholic faithful they should show holy life and always pray for the Nation and country’s unity.
He appealed to the Catholic faithful to dedicate their lent period in visiting children’s home, helping street families and pray for politicians so that they do not persist in dividing the country.
“This Ash Wednesday is very important into your lives, you also know what’s the country is currently going through, this calls for even more prayers and asking God’s intervention,” he noted.
He also called on the Catholic faithful to ensure that they repent before God and become ambassadors of the gospel and peace in the country.
The holy Ash Wednesday masses will be conducted in various Catholic churches in Mombasa the whole day, with Christians urged to ensure they get the apply of Holy ash on their foreheads so that they officially begin fasting.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of lent period where after 40 days of fasting, Christians across the world mark the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Easter.
