Former Muhoroni MP Ayiecho Olweny is facing uncertain political future after being condemned to a second consecutive loss during the August 8, 2017, poll by his longtime rival Onyango K'Oyoo.Prof Olweny who served as Muhoroni MP for two consecutive terms from 2003-2013 is one of the most experienced politicians in Luo Nyanza which is NASA leader Raila Odinga’s turf. However, for now, his future in politics is hanging on the balance.The veteran politician who served as an Assistant Minister for Education during the Grand Coalition Government is one of Raila's trusted political allies. However, that could not prevent him from losing his seat to little-known Onyango K'Oyoo in 2013. Making his political debut, K'Oyoo faced off with Prof Olweny for the ODM ticket. But after the chaotic nominations, the incumbent was given the ticket. K'Oyoo jumped ship and joined little-known PDP party and condemned Prof Olweny to his first loss in the general elections in a decade.Keen to make a comeback in 2017, the former MP who is also ODM chairman in Kisumu County, was to face off with K'Oyoo for the party ticket. However, as fate would have it, the incumbent condemned him to another defeat, a loss that sealed his fate in the election.
