The Nairobi county government has started installing streetlights just a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta gave a directive on the same.

Speaking when he joined Governor Mike Sonko during the lighting of a Christmas tree at City Hall on Friday, Uhuru ordered that the project be undertaken immediately.

He told the governor to ensure the whole city is lit up and not just the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

"We have the opportunity to make Nairobi the most remarkable city in the continent. To make it the green city in the sun once again and to light all streets."

Uhuru said that his government will remaiin committed to working closely with the city government to ensure that Nairobi is transformed.

Earlier on Wednesday, the governor chaired his first county cabinet meeting where the matter of street lighting, traffic, and street families issues were discussed.
