Nairobi Governor Gideon Mbuvi Sonko has finally broken his silence following the resignation of his deputy Polycarp Igathe.

In his resignation letter to Governor Sonko, Igathe claimed that his boss failed to trust him and that he could not effectively execute his role to run the capital county.

But in a quick response to Igathe's resignation, Sonko through his communication team, acknowledged the receipt of the letter and that he would issue a statement later.

"Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has received the letter of resignation from Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe. The Governor is considering the letter and would issue a comprehensive statement later," read the letter.

Sonko-Igathe relationship had been reported by local media as tense but the duo downplayed the claims even as they insisted that they were enjoying very solid working relationship.

However, Igathe's decision to cut short their political marriage paints a picture of a county government that has been ravaged by infighting.

Before trying his luck in politics, Igathe had an illustrious career in the corporate world where his last assignment was Vivo Energy CEO.
