Nominated ODM MP Wilson Sossion maintains national examinations should not be pushed to a later date because of elections.
A tussle between electoral body IEBC and opposition NASA has thrown the country to a limbo over the future of millions of students who are set to sit for their exams.
But at a midday interview with the media, Session, who also doubles as KNUT Secretary General, maintained that elections should not affect the examination date slated October 20th.
“Elections should not affect the future of millions of students who have prepared adequately for national exams,” said the teachers’ union boss.
He added:”Postponing them will be disadvantageous to the learners and as leaders, their interests should be put first.”
While Jubilee maintains that October 17th elections should not be postponed, opposition leader Raila Odinga has often advised the KNEC to push exams to a later date to allow the country conduct elections.
However, on Monday morning during the stakeholders meeting, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said elections may not necessarily affect examinations in schools as widely publicized.
