Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has called upon governors in the Coast region to support the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani. The economic bloc has not implemented a single project since it was formed two years ago, the Nation has reported. The bloc is reported to have been facing different challenges including leadership wrangles among others.Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi argue that the six county bosses in the Coast region must unite for a common purpose if they want to realise the dreams of the region. Joho said he will reach out to other county bosses to spur economic growth in the region whose residents have raised concerns over being sidelined by the current and past regimes.“We will bring on board all governors, especially the new ones and collaborate in our agenda as we move forward,” said Joho, as quoted by the local daily. The Governor also said the United Kingdom and the European Union are ready to back him and other leaders in developing the region. However, Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has said he is not ready to comment on the issue until he understands what the bloc aims at achieving. “We are yet to be briefed on what it entails. Some of us are new in office so I cannot tell you if we support the plan. It will be unfair to comment on it at the moment,” said Samboja. On his part, Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha said the calls for secession will hurt the economic bloc’s agenda.
