Kenya’s first Prime Minister and Founding President Jomo Kenyatta married four wives, Grace Wahu, Edna Clerke, Grace Wanjiku and Mama Ngina Kenyatta, reveals The Standard.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, the fourth President of Kenya, is by the fourth and youngest wife, Mama Ngina.

Kenyatta’s eldest son Peter Muigai Kenyatta was by first wife Wahu, was born in 1920 and died in 1979 barely a year after the demise of President Kenyatta.

Muigai was a prominent businessman in Nairobi and followed his father’s political footsteps by representing Juja constituency and was subsequently appointed Assistant Minister Foreign Affairs.

Kenyatta’s second child was Margret Wambui Kenyatta, who died aged 89 on Wednesday in a Nairobi hospital.

Ms Wambui, who went through Alliance High School, served as Dagoretti councilor before being elected the first woman Nairobi Mayor in 1970, a position she held until 1976 after which she was appointed Kenya’s ambassador to United Nations.

Peter Magana Kenyatta, who served as BBC presenter at some point, lives in London and rarely tours Kenya.

He was Kenyatta’s only child with Edna Clarke, who died in 1995 aged 86. Little is known however about Mr. Magana.

Kenyatta’s third wife Grace Wanjiku was daughter to pre-colonial paramount Chief Koinange Wa Mbiyu, father to prominent minister Mbiyu Koinange. Wanjiku died in 1950 while giving birth to Jane Wambui Gecaga.

Christine Wambui, now Kritina Pratt, was the first child of Kenyatta with Mama Ngina and was born in 1952, months before Kenyatta was detained by colonialists at Kapenguria.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is Ngina’s second child and was born in 1961, months after Mzee Kenyatta was released from detention.

Having spent much of his early life in State House, Uhuru studied at St. Mary’s before joining Amherst College in United States of America.

Anna Nyokabi Muthama is immediate follower of Uhuru and was born I 1963. She is married in Makueni County and little is known about her.

Muhoho Kenyatta, Uhuru’s youngest brother, was born in 1964 and runs the Kenyatta’s vast business empire that includes Brookside Dairy and Commercial Bank of Africa.

Jomo Kenyatta’s only brother James Muigai was the first black student to be enrolled in Alliance High School in 1926. He step sister, Margret Kenyatta, was admitted as 1000th student in the prestigious school.

He is father to Ngengi Muigai, who inherited Gatundu parliamentary seat upon Kenyatta’s death and Beth Wambui Mugo, a long time Dagoretti MP and now a nominated senator.

Also closely associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta are Jomo Gecaga, his private secretary and Nana Gecaga.

The two are children to Uhuru’s step sister Jane Wambui Gecaga, a daughter to Kenyatta’s third wife Grace Wanjiku.
