Although the impact might not be caught by a simple observer, the prolonged electioneering period has taken a huge toll on the common youth of Nairobi.

According to a survey, the rate of unemployment has risen and 53 per cent of respondents said they were out of jobs.

Politics have contributted to this with a good number of youths being laid off through election-related layoffs and a tough environment linked to an underperforming economy.

In the research dubbed 'The Job Market Report' conducted by the research firm 'Trends and Insights For Africa', the overall rate of unemployment in Kenya has escalated to more than 39 per cent which was earlier reported by the United Nations Human Development Index report in May.

Aside from layoffs, it has been tough starting and operating a business in the slum areas as they are prone to disruption and political violence that always tag along heavy loses.
