President Uhuru Kenyatta had his speech at Viongozi centre periodically interrupted by hundreds of Pro-NASA youths who maintained that Nyamira region remained an opposition territory.

Earlier, the President and his deputy William Ruto had inspected construction of Chepilat-Chabera road before addressing a mammoth crowd at Magwagwa grounds.

Located few KM in the outskirts on Nyamira Town, Viongozi Centre was chosen by the Presidents handlers as the ideal place to meet local leadership.

The visibly agitated youths chanted pro-Raila Odinga songs from nearby fence a move that precipitated security agents to intervene and restore order.

While the number of those who were temporarily arrested by security forces is not clear, they were however released once the Head of State left the location for Kitutu Masaba where he was to address another rally.

It was Uhuru’s second visit to the region in as many years after spending another one day in the county last April.

Gusii region has been identified by Jubilee Party strategists as a swing region and the president is keen to win after losing to opposition in 2013.

A part from Ben Momanyi (Borabu), none of elected leaders from the county witnessed Kenyatta’s tour which comes five months to polls.

Nevertheless, Kenyatta’s tour was peaceful despite the little commotion at Kebirigo’s Viongozi center and he is set to tour Kisii County on Wednesday.
