A section of Gusii leaders allied to opposition coalition NASA, now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to drop war against Chief Justice David Maraga, failure to which they will instigate protests across Gusii.
At Nakuru State Lodge on Wednesday, an agitated Uhuru maintained that he will continue questioning the suitability of Maraga as Supreme Court judge.
But with Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu filing a petition seeking removal of Maraga from office, the leaders led by Borabu MP Ben Momanyi have warned that it ‘won’t be easy’.
“We know they are targeting an innocent person and we shall not succumb. We will stand with him no matter what and that is our position,” he said.
Momanyi, who was speaking in Nairobi, added:”This is unfair war that targets the minority. Uhuru must stop these cheap wars or else we go back to people.”
Also sharing similar opinions were Janet Ong’era [Kisii], Kemosi Mogaka [West Mugirango] and Sylvanus Osoro of South Mugirango.
Immediately after the Supreme Court ruling that nullified Uhuru’s victory, protests entangled most parts of Gusii against the alleged unfair treatment of Maraga by President Uhuru.
Virtually in most of his outings, Uhuru has faulted the Supreme Court over the landmark ruling and vowed to ‘teach’ them a lesson should he take over.
