President Uhuru Kenyatta’s grip in vote rich Gusii region is under threat following his recent rants on Chief Justice David Maraga, who hails from the region.
In a meeting with Jubilee leaders from Kisii on Wednesday at Nakuru, Uhuru maintained that he was within the confines of the law to criticize Maraga following the nullification of his victory by Supreme Court.
But thousands of protesters turned in the streets of Keroka in protest to Uhuru’s persistent incarnation on the Supreme Court and its president.
Trouble started when Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu filed a petition seeking to remove Maraga from his seat on grounds of unsound mind and incompetence.
Protesters threatened to ‘teach’ Uhuru a lesson should he fail to halt attacks targeting Maraga, who by hierarchy the senior most leader from the region.
Business came into stand still as ant-Jubilee slogans eclipsed the South Nyanzan town as protestors also threatened to lynch Jubilee leaders who ‘sell’ Kenyatta in the region.
In August elections, Uhuru improved exponentially having topped in Nyamira County, a region that has traditionally voted for Raila Odinga.
