Calls by residents along the Salgaa stretch to have speed bumps may not bear fruits.

This is after it emerged that the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway is in a class of roads that cannot have speed bumps.

"Speed bumps are not just erected. Our roads are in different classes and the Nakuru-Eldoret highway is in class A.  This is a busy class where bumps are not needed," Francis Meja of the National Transport and Safety Authority said.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyajui said most of the accidents are caused by carelessness. He urged drivers of both the public vehicles and the private ones to be extra cautious.

The two were speaking in Naivasha on Sunday in the wake of a fatal crash at the Salgaa blackspot.

The crash left 12 people dead.
