Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Dr. Roselyn Akombe has quit her role in the electoral body.

This will affect Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta differently. For Raila Odinga, it is good news because it adds the reason to his demands of reforms at IEBC. However, President Uhuru Kenyatta will have to pull another ugly trick to survive the October 26 credibility war.

According to Akombe, the October 26 polls will not be credible as directed by the constitution. This will pile more pressure to Jubilee who are demanding that the 26th presidential elections must go on as planned.

The international community will have an increased negative image about President Uhuru if he instructs his lieutenants in parliament to change electoral laws to force a repeat poll without Odinga and without key members of IEBC.

Dr. Akombe quit while in Dubai inspecting ballot paper printing at the Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing firm. After the written resignation, Akombe flew to New York for security reasons.

“Let us solve the political crisis we have at hand and then chart the way forward towards a credible presidential election,” read part of Akombe’s resignation letter.
