[Photo| the-star]A Kisumu inmate who sat for the 2017 KCPE exam beat the odds to score 352 marks out of 500.Sylvester Okoth was not deterred by his conviction of 20-year sentence and challenging environment to pass his national examinations.Okoth attributed his performance to hard work, this despite having less than five hours of study in a day with only one qualified teacher in the prison and in an environment where one textbook was shared with over 20 people. Having scored an A-minus in mathematics, Okoth would like to pursue mechanical engineer course. He now hopes to appeal against his sentence so as to be able to achieve his dreams.
