Traffic was slowed  down in Kisii following a peaceful demonstration by women that began at around 9am on Friday morning.

The women who started the match at Gusii Stadium are protesting against what they call a looming disbandment of third gender rule by the parliament.

The match organized by the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) where more than two hundred women took to the streets to express their grievances.

Clad in T-shirts imprinted ‘Wakati wetu ni sasa, kama si sasa ni sasa hivi’ a rendition of a famous Swahili slogan meaning ‘our time is now, if it’s not its right now’ they said they would not sit and allow unequal representation.

Addressing journalists at Kisii Town, Grace Kemuntho, a FIDA representative said that the match had commenced countrywide in bid to express their displeasure with the Parliament.

“We have started a three day demonstration country-wide to express our dissatisfaction. We are saying we won’t stop pushing for the rightful gender representation,” she said.

Kisii County Women Forum secretary Jessica Nyabuto said that the members would lobby for the passage of the bill.
