Nakuru Senator James Mungai has taken the government to ask over the delay in completion of the re-construction of the road that connects Molo to the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The senator said the Molo-Kibunja road is also rapidly becoming a health hazard to bodaboda operators, residents and passersby because it exudes huge billows of dust.

He said the road has been under construction since 2012 and has experienced several contractors changing hands over its re-carpeting.

“This is one of the many stalled projects in our county but it has been delayed for too long now and the Kenya National Highways Authority should now move with speed to ensure its completion,” the senator said.

Mungai said this during the funeral of a late 20-year-old Molo girl, who died in India while undergoing cancer treatment. Gladys Wanjiku was buried at Ndenderu farm in Turi on Monday.

Others present were Nakuru women representative Mary Mbugua, deputy governor Joseph Ruto, Molo MP Jacob Macharia and area MCA Ngugi Muigai.

The senator said the dust raised by passing motorists contains sand and cement which causes chest infections when inhaled.

He also called upon the roads’ authority to reconstruct the Njoro-Elburgon highway which he said was in a terrible state and has a potential to cause road accidents due to high traffic.

“Blood should not be shed anymore here due to accidents. The road is too narrow and needs to be expanded. Its re-carpeting is long overdue’, said the TNA senator.
