The businessman is said to be  doing everything to ensure the building stands.

According to sources, the city businessman has suggested alternative ways on how the government can benefit from the building instead of pulling it down.

Sources say the government could be considering on the alternatives before demolishing the multi-billion building on the outer ring road.

“He (Gorasia) is pushing the matter with the hope that the building will be spared and put into beneficial use for the public,” a source on condition of anonymity said.

The city businessman has proposed to the government to take up the building and turn into a school to public facility instead of demolishing it.

Gorasia in an interview with journalists early this month said that he had given up on the building.

He, however, said that he would push for compensation should the government go on to demolishing the building.

Chief Inspector Julius Wanjau who is leading the demolition on riparian land says that the mall will be brought down on Monday next week.

He said that the two weeks’ notice issued lapsed on August 30.

Taj Mall is among 4000 buildings set to be demolished in a quest to save and reclaim riparian land in the city.
