Addressing youth who turned out for the Jiamini Challenge at Mwatate CDF hall, Samboja said a big chunk of the 2018/2019 budget will go towards programmes meant to empower the youth.

Flanked by his Deputy Majala Mlagui, the governor disclosed that plans are underway to install free Wi-Fi in Voi to help the youth access online jobs and the county youth portal with ease before the programme is rolled out to sub-counties.

Mlagui urged MPs to put up constituency innovation hubs in their areas of jurisdiction saying they will greatly improve the lives of the youth.

Speaking at the same venue, Mwatate MP Andrew Mwadime, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako and Voi MP Jones Mlolwa applauded the County government for the initiative saying it will ease access to information.

According to the Department of Youth, Sports, Culture and Tourism CeC Bigvai Mwailemi, youths can keep abreast with the opportunities, participate in competitions, vote for awards participants and above all have linkages with corporates at a click of a button.

"It's a new beginning, the governor had pledged to ensure youth access all County information wherever they are, we have kept the promise through this portal. We want to register 30,000 youth and post at least 500 job opportunities," said Mwailemi.

Youth Enterprise Development Fund officer in charge of Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Morris Murimi announced that they will roll out "Youth Plus Mashinani", an intensive programme which will offer six months training to innovators, finance provision and tools to ensure youth accomplish their dreams.

Taita Taveta has been selected as one of the three Counties where the pilot program will be carried out.
