Embakasi East MP Babu Owino caused laughter on Wednesday evening during an event in his constituency in which he gave out sanitary pads to primary and high school girls.
Babu who is known for his comical speeches urged the girls to dedicate their time to studies and leave social issues that may ruin their future.
He said school time should be for studies and not for lovemaking.
"Our young girls, don't let us down," he said at Donholm Primary School in a video posted on his official Facebook page during the free sanitary pads program launch.
"I already told you that your boyfriend as a lady is your book. Instead of kissing a boyfriend, kiss a pen."
The free sanitary pads is an initiative aimed at keeping girls in school during their menstrual cycle as envisaged in the basic Education Amendment Act which he said he passionately seconded in Parliament.
"I pledge to ensure that all schools in Embakasi East benefit from the aforementioned program as their current Member of Parliament for I strongly believe that education is the key to success," he said.
Babu said the high cases of schoolgirl pregnancies should be fought against as such incidents deny girls the opportunity to complete school.
